I've been visiting Shannon Lake for more than 40 years. If there can be a geographic heart to me, let it be here. I love this lake, and, owing to it, love hiking in the woods. My father, brother, and I coursed along this trail many times playing hide-and seek, quietly looking for deer, or fleeing grouse taking thundering wing mere steps away from us. Alone on the trail today, and quiet, I can still hear the roar of that long gone father and the helpless laughter of his sons. They hiked around that winsome water in summer. An older, portly version of one of those sons hikes the trail today in autumn. He no longer laughs but weeps. But feel you no pity for him, for he has loved and has been loved. He is wealthy in halcyon memories. Parking can be found on Found Lake Road by the trailhead sign. There are a few trails to be found, the prettiest by far circles the lake. They're all easy hikes. Walking in to Shannon Lake you'll find a boat launch. I've seen persons fishing many times. There are no restrooms, so plan ahead.
