Our camp trip there in June was awesome. Was the first time for us to camp in the Black Forest State Forest. The camp host Travis was the best!
Beautiful park, but as we were hiking a tree had fallen across the trail some months ago by the look of the tree and ground around it making it impassable. At the mercy of the ranger as to when they open their service for wood sales. Flowage is heavy in particulate that clings to arm hair and everything. Vault toilets aren't terrible, but bring a lantern for evening pit stops as there is no electricity. Otherwise quiet and nice rough camping.
Really peaceful; close to beautiful hiking trails through the forest. Beach was nice--not slimy or anything. Campground host was friendly and informative. Bring drinking water; the hand-pumped water can get a bit rusty.
