I love Saffron. I started coming here about a month ago when I found the motivation to start practicing yoga again. I picked Saffron over other studios closer to my home because they share a space with other restoratively healing centers I was already visiting; because their instagram game is killer and alluring; and because the practitioners work to make themselves open and accessible to all in the community.
I have kept coming to Saffron because of all those reasons and more. The paper lantern lights draped across the ceiling softly glow, setting the mood by bringing a ethereal peacefulness to the practice room; the studio is flexible in price, skill level, and availability of classes; regularly-held workshops give the opportunity for a deeper practice, or a focus on problem areas; and every instructor I’ve learned from has been warm, accommodating, and on point with clear cues and instruction.
Morgan has this incredible calming presence. You’ll hear it right away in her voice, but if you practice with her, you’ll come to see it’s her being as a whole. She has an aura of calmness, solidity, and assurance that makes her extremely well-suited for what she does. With every class, every cue, it’s clear that she has put careful thought and intention behind what she is doing and saying. Her touch is gentle, but purposeful; not too strong or controlling but not uncomfortably ghosting, either. Consistently approachable and willing to engage and answer questions, Morgan always seems like she’s enjoying what she does. With her intelligence, friendliness, and humor, taking classes from her is a pleasure.
Sarah weaves the practice of mindfulness meditation into her classes, which I love. Yoga is naturally a mindful activity, but by bringing more of a focus on our awareness and observation of our minds and bodies - of our present moment - to her classes, practicing with Sarah becomes a deeper meditation than yoga alone. Her voice lends a soothing, tranquil quality and she often offers a simple Thai bodywork adjustment to her students.
Rita is hilarious. I’ve only been able to take one class with her, but I will gladly take more when my schedule allows. Her instructions were clear and the results were refreshing. She broke up the stillness of the session with well-placed humor, which served to ease any tension or anxiety of practicing with someone new and unfamiliar.
Michelle I’ve only experienced as the co-host of a workshop, but what stood out to me were her creative word choices when describing what to do next - vivid and visceral, the intent was clear.
I have also received Thai bodywork from Morgan, and it was amazing. I am never able to describe what happens during Thai bodywork in a way that makes sense to someone who is unfamiliar with it, but the results of the pressing and pulling and stretching are simultaneously relaxing and revitalizing. I came home from my session and continued to feel things slide satisfyingly into place throughout the evening, and then had a night of truly restful sleep - a rarity for me.
I was surprised when I started writing this to realize I’d only been going to Saffron for a month - it feels like longer. SYC fully encompasses the spirit of community, and visiting is a refreshing experience, every time. I can’t recommend highly enough.
