Unfortunately we had a very negative experience with Gabor. Communication, extra costs, follow-through, dispute resolution, billing issues and a lack of confinement of dust/debris to the specific work area were problems we experienced (e.g. saw cutting an interior brick wall without proper dust containment. Same with drywall sanding). In my opinion, billing practices regarding markups were not clearly communicated. There are markups or percentages added to costs other than the general contracting fee. I sought clarification multiple times but did not receive satisfactory answers. I'm sure other companies have such markups as well and I'm not aware of their disclosure policies - but I would hope they would be more transparent. This was a problem specific to Change Orders. Is it common knowledge that you have to watch out for Change Orders? Also, since Gabor's practice, as I recall, was to have monies paid in advance and they would pull from that account as they invoiced, they were completely in control of the money process. That is a mistake that I would never make again. Those kind of arrangements leave the consumer with zero leverage and complete reliance on the fairness and objectivity of their counterparty. It's an even worse position to be in when a material dispute arises. I understand that there are two sides to every story but I was completely unsatisfied and actually offended by Nathan's conduct related to my concerns and the respect shown to the parts of my home outside the scope of the contract. I could go on. I also know that I'm not the only dissatisfied (former) client out there.
